The plate is one-of-a-kind using the impression of the actual vegetable. It is only able to be made in the season of the vegetable. The plate has uneven edges and has a metal hook on the back allowing you to hang it on the wall.
Fossil Light and Plates
Following my mission of creating one-of-a-kind pieces rather than mass-production, I use the actual vegetables to create impressions in the clay. These fossil plates and lamps speak about the fragility of humanity, the necessity of seed savings, and the importance of biodiversity farming practices.
For thousands of years fruits and vegetables have been subjects in paintings, both on canvas and on ceramics. I question how I could make this thousand-year subject into something new.
Sow, Sew and So
Sow, Sew, and So: A Creative Ode to Nature's Bounty. This project focuses on the concept of fossilization of vegetables, the act of harvesting, the necessity to offer a peaceful protest for change, and to ignite conversation. Working with impressions of vegetables in clay — which makes a fossil.
