Bricks
Five geometric forms which names reference different types of dwellings. They reference bricks, and artworks are sometimes composed of multiple bricks to create a work of art. It brings into concept the idea of building which references my grandfather .
Brick Block, Tick Tock
Brick Block, Tick Tick is a multidisciplinary project that confronts gender-based violence and challenges the patriarchal structures embedded in both society and the art world. Rooted in personal and generational narratives, the work draws from the artist’s grandfathers—one a bricklayer, the other a ceramicist—as symbolic figures of construction and creation.
At the heart of the project are five distinct brick forms, each used in different ways: some are presented as singular sculptural pieces functioning as vases, others are used to build tables or assembled into architectural compositions, and several serve as bases for lamps. Through these variations, the humble brick becomes both material and metaphor, a modular unit for reimagining the structures we live within.
Accompanied by performative installations and the sound piece Tick Tock, which echoes the heartbeat and ticking clock, the project reflects on the passage of time and the slow labor of transformation. Brick Block, Tick Tick reclaims the act of building as a form of resistance, using craft to advocate for justice, equality, and repair.
